A sleep study is an overnight recording of your sleep, breathing, heart rate, leg movements and snoring for the diagnosis and evaluation of sleep disorders. Sleep studies can be performed at home.
Many people with sleep apnea are unaware they have this condition; an at-home sleep test can provide further insights into your sleep and body health.
The purpose of a sleep study is to get a thorough understanding of your body functions during sleep and to identify disorders that interfere with sleep and daily life.
Home-based sleep monitoring can diagnose snoring, obstructive and central sleep apnoea, periodic leg movement disorder, and insomnia. The sleep study can also give valuable information to assist in the diagnosis of delayed sleep phase syndrome and narcolepsy.
The device is worn usually overnight to monitor breathing, oxygen level, brain activity, cardiac activity and body movements using several simple sensors applied to the skin surface. The device is returned the following morning to our Sleep Centre for assessment.
Your results will be sent to your referring practitioner. Please ensure that you have scheduled a follow-up appointment with your doctor two weeks from your sleep study date to discuss the results.
Please reach us on our contact email if you cannot find an answer to your question.
If you have an Australian Medicare or DVA Card and 18 years and over, your test is bulk-billed (no cost).
You will be required to satisfy the Medicare criteria.
Private Billing is available for aged 18years and over , contact us for price.
If you are under 18 years of age, you will need to contact your local children's hospital for a sleep test.
You are welcome to collect your sleep test kit from any of our pick up sites.
We also offer the Sleep Test Kit to be posted to your home for $99 (includes return postage).
No changes are needed on the night of your sleep test.
We ask that you take your medications, supplements as per normal.
The aim is to get an understanding of what you normally do during your sleep.
Try not to do your sleep study on a night you have gone out partying / clubbing.
Once you have put the Sleep Test on, you can read, relax or even watch television before going to sleep. We encouraged you to follow your normal pre-bedtime sleep routine.
We do ask that when you do go to sleep, you turn your tv off or to mute, and turn off any loud music.
